I know how you feel
The Duke ordered him to punish other slave. He gave strict orders "no mercy". It was uncomfortable to whip one of their companions in misery. However nobody wants to risk disobeying their master.
Although the slave feels some pity for his collarmate, he lashes out with extreme cruelty and violence for two reasons: first, he knows that if it were him at the other end of the lash, no one would show him mercy; second, he takes pleasure in torturing the other, there is an undeniable sadistic pleasure in ripping the back of a strong young man with the whip. Great drawing and theme my friend!
